Umm… Motivational speech anyone?

I just worked a 12 hour day and finally I’m going home, It sucks it’s only Monday and I have to do it all over again tomorrow, so I sit on the train headed for Jersey. As I watch an extremely obese woman on the subway clipping her fingernails on a crowded train. She makes a pile of fingernail clippings on the seat next to her. There are others who would love to sit down in that seat but no one on the train has the balls to tell her how disgusting, vile and offensive her selfish act really is. Then I exit the train and walk down the block “finally I’m almost home” but wait, here is another extremely obese woman cleaning a curious amount of fast food trash out of her early 90’s pontiac. As she blatantly dumps all the trash on the sidewalk with a trash can in plain view I’m completely disgusted once again. What’s going on around here. “almost home, almost home” But wait, the local heroin addict couple sees me coming, they say, “hey man got any change” I say, “No” they say, “then gimme a fucking dollar.” I see this crazy shit every damn day. Yea I could just turn my head and spit, or maybe and can run for president and have people like this executed, na that won’t work. How about I just hit the road and put these treasured memories behind me. Yea!

“Please get me out of here I can’t take it any more, I’m gona freak out!” That may be a little extreme, I know I have a great life and I’m extremely thankful for that. But we are extremely eager to start this adventure. Living in Jersey City and commuting to NYC and Brooklyn every work day has become a little too much for me. On a good day I work 10 hours a day and plus two and a half hours commute total. I get home eat dinner watch some netflix pass out and do it all over again, and again and again.Β  Every day it’s the same thing over and over again. Oh yea, I work most weekends too. Yea I know most people do stuff like this for many years, then they die. Does that sound like fun to you? I think not. Yea I know what you’re thinking. ” stop complaining, we all do it. No one want to listen to this crap.” Well, I say forget all that I’m looking for another way, another lifestyle, the riff raff of the work non stop city life is not for me at this moment in time. Im young and full of energy, why waste that on working my ass of doing labor for another decade and a half, the money is not all that good, why break my back and breathe toxic dust day in and day out. I can do anything I want in this life, nothing is stopping me. Please ask yourself this question “What is something completely crazy that I want to do before I die, Where do I want to go, what do I want to see?” If you can figure out the answer to that, then figure out what it takes to do it, then DO IT! Yea you get mixed reviews from friends and family, but you need to take all that with a grain of salt.

For a 33 year old human man I think I’ve had some very epic experiences in my lifetime. I just want to keep that ball rolling. Yea theres the old saying, “You could get hit by a car tomorrow, why not do what you want today,” as lame a cliche as thats sounds it’s the truth. Its something you should live by. Life is too short and for some its even shorter. And if this doesn’t work out for Sara Lupe and I maybe I can sell my words of inspiration to one of those inspirational poster companies.

Suspension is in!

The OME suspension with Dakar leaf packs install was a success. This was the first time i put a suspension kit in a vehicle, and I found it to be a fairly simple process. Paul fromΒ http://ihearttrail.com has done suspension kits before and decided to help me. If he wasn’t there I would not be able to do this. After hours of wrenching and driving around Queens and Brooklyn looking for bolts we had to cut off, the install was a success. The Tacoma now has a 2 inch lift and a high end suspension that will be able to take the abuse of our 30,000 mile trip to Argentina. The truck looks and feels great.

Pass the salt please

Salar-de-Uyuni-Bolivia-5

The Salt Flats of Bolivia also known as Salar de Uyuni are the largest salt flats in the world at 4,086 square miles. During the wet season (December to March) the flats are covered by a layer of water a few centimeters thick making it the worlds largest mirror. During certain times of the year it is also a breeding ground for pink flamingos.

It’s said that people often lose their sense of direction here. When you look around everything looks exactly the same. Β For this reason, certain people might become anxious and panic. Getting lost in any desert is no joke. It is necessary to take certain precautions that might include bringing a compass, familiariizing oneself with specific landmarks, going with a guided tour, or just having some common sense. Its amazing how far some common sense will get you these days.

Suspension in my kitchen

Roads in the states are maintained on the regular and built to last. A lot of the roads south of the boarder are either not paved or not maintained very well, which leads to a bumpy ride. With this in consideration as well as all the extra weight we will be carrying in the truck, the stock suspension is going to fail. We went with the OME full suspension kit with Daker leaf springs. This might be over kill, but we thought it would be a good idea to have a high end suspension for the 30,000 mile overlanding trip. Now i just have to get it on the truck somehow.

Can’t rely on the internet. Bringing back the foldable map.

We plan on camping most of the time during our trip, so internet will not be readily available. Bringing up to date maps and travel guides and a compass will give us the confidence and info to travel to more remote places and essentilly see more sites. Im looking forward to getting away from the internet and practicing more of the old school way of travel. Yes of course we are bringing a laptop, and yes we have done and will continue to spend countless hours online researching for this trip, but checking email all day and watching facebook drama unfold will be a thing of the past.
